JACK CLYDE

In the early 1950s, Jack Clyde was born in St. Vincent Street, situated directly behind the “old” Glasgow Savings Bank in Argyle Street. Since his father was a cabdriver and, in time, a fleet owner, Clyde became very knowledgeable on the trade and could be found helping to clean the cabs from an early age.

As he grew up, Clyde himself became a cabdriver and his experiences are most notably captured in the work Glasgow Taxi. Providing a humorous exploration of Glasgow and its population, Clyde shows us the city through the lens of man who has spent almost his entire lifetime driving the citizens of Glasgow around from place to place.

Endorsements:

“All the stories, all the laughs. They’re all here.”

“An excellent keepsafe for visitors to Glasgow from all over the world as well as anyone who has an affinity to the city and its people.”
